UTD to Host Overwatch League Watch Party on Campus
Gaming enthusiasts and those curious about the esports phenomenon are invited to the University’s watch party. Sponsored by the Office of Information Technology and the Division of Student Affairs , the free event begins at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16, in the Student Services Building Auditorium.
All three Overwatch League match-ups are on the schedule. Dallas Fuel will have merchandise giveaways throughout the evening.
Overwatch is a competitive PC game that pits two teams of six players against each other in an assortment of tactical play scenarios like capture the flag, point capture and payload escort. Each player has access to a pool of 27 potential characters, or Heroes, all with different abilities and synergies.
The Overwatch League began this year to broadcast competitive play via online streams to fans across the globe. Competitive level play produces fast-paced, high-skill, and exciting moments, and the addition of official commentators helps fans of all experience levels appreciate the action.
UTD students can register ahead of time by visiting the Eventbrite page for the event and using the password utdstudent. Be sure to bring your Comet card with you for verification. While admission is free and available for all ages, numbers are subject to capacity.
Free parking will be available in Lot U, located by the cricket and baseball fields near University Parkway and West Campbell Road. There will be free shuttles available to take you to the SSA.
